Appen Media - Appen has filed an appeal after the Georgia Superior Court ruled in Sandy Springs' favor in an Open Records Act case. The publisher accused the city's police department of withholding public information on crime incidents.

  • Crystal Edmonson is hosting a new podcast, Pathfinders: The Changing Face of Leaders in Business. Here's a link.

  • Staff writer Rebecca Grapevine departs for a position as chief statehouse reporter at the Louisville Courier.


Atlanta Journal-Constitution - Publisher Andrew Morse looks ahead to 2024, noting some changes at the paper:

  • Morse writes: "Next fall, the AJC will move back into the city of Atlanta, into a new office in Midtown. This new home will help to reestablish our roots and connections with our community."

  • New bureaus across the state

  • Expanding key beats and hiring new reporters

  • More "robust business coverage especially about the multinational companies, tech startups and small businesses that call Atlanta home."

  • More coverage of the entertainment industry

  • Revamped Opinion section

  • New AJC mobile app, updates to AJC.com, new video and audio offerings

  • The "Monica Pearson Show" debuts on January 15. A monthly column, "A Monica Moment," has also launched. Click here for details.

  • Food & Dining senior editor Ligaya Figueras has launched a weekly segment on the Rashad Richey Morning Show on WAOK AM 1380 at 9 a.m. Ligaya will be the show’s featured food and dining expert and will regularly share the freshest reviews, openings/closings, trending brunch places, regional hot spots and notable chefs and restaurants.

  • Jennifer Brett has been named Deputy Managing Editor

  • We've added reporter Josh Reyes to the database. He's covering education in Gwinnett.


In other AJC news, perhaps related to the notes above, several writers who've been freelancing for the paper for many years will no longer be doing so, including Carolyn Cunningham, Karen Huppertz, Monroe Roark, Kathryn Kickliter.

Washington Post - Holly Bailey is now a national correspondent based in Atlanta and covering the South. She was previously based in Minneapolis. She joined The Post in March 2019 as a national political reporter covering the 2020 presidential campaign. Before joining The Post, she was a national correspondent at Yahoo News, where she covered major news events including the Boston Marathon bombing and trial, the mass shootings in Las Vegas and Sutherland Springs, Tex., and the May 2013 tornadoes in her home state of Oklahoma. Her first book, “The Mercy of the Sky,” about severe weather in Oklahoma, was published in 2015. Before Yahoo News, she was a White House correspondent at Newsweek, where she covered the presidencies of George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

  • Krista Richmond is PRSA Georgia's Chapter Champion for January. Richmond is the Internal Communications Manager in UGA's Division of Marketing & Communications. Plus, she's the editor of Commons, UGA's faculty and staff newspaper.

  • The City of Atlanta has appointed Allison Fouche as its new Chief of Communications. She was most recently Chief Comms Officer for the City of Memphis.

  • 360 Media and Tara Murphy mark 28 years in business this month. Congrats, Tara!
