Summer camps and child care - Some families have summer camps and child care scheduled by January, but others try to coordinate care in the final weeks before school ends. Due to the child care staffing crisis, there may be fewer available spots causing parents more stress. Quality Care for Children’s CEO and President Ellyn Cochran is available to discuss what parents should do to lock in their summer child care, issues surrounding child care staffing and funding. Summer Learning - For students who still need academic assistance from the pandemic or those who need extra assistance to reach grade level expectations, summer learning programs like Horizons Atlanta help students avoid the “summer slide” and often begin school two – three months ahead of their peers. Horizons Atlanta’s Executive Director Meredith Johnson can speak to the academic impact of its summer learning program and why/how parents should approach summer learning.  (Contact Sonia Fuller, Sonia@SoniaFullerCommunications.com)

Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent - APS is expecting to name a new superintendent by this summer. It will be the fourth superintendent in 10 years to lead the district. Ed Chang, executive director of education nonprofit redefinED atlanta, is available to comment on this process and the qualities that are needed in a superintendent to solve problems, and increase equity and move the district forward to support all 50,000+ students.
