Mitch's Media Musings

General

If you’re a journalist new to town, take a read through this handy dandy guide to how pronounce all our local city and street names: https://leffsatlantamedia.wordpress.com/2014/09/09/how-to-sound-like-a-local-the-unofficial-pronunciation-important-things-to-know-guide-for-reporters-new-to-atlanta/.

4 Questions Journalist Spotlight - Check out our latest interviews, which you can watch in video format or listen to audio: https://www.leffsatlantamedia.com/q4-journalists. You can also find our podcasts on just about any podcast platform (Apple, Amazon, Spotify, iHeartRadio, etc.). We tape new segments every week if you'd like to get your media outlet featured! Email me at mitch@leffassociates.com to set up a taping time. Check out our latest featuring Chuck Williams with WRBL TV in Columbus, GA.

Congrats to Atlanta writer Echo Garrett will soon be awarded the Inspirational Woman in Literature Award by the Inspirational Women Awards for Media, Literature, and Journalism 2023. They said: "You have an illustrious career that defines the industry; therefore, we are awarding you the Inspirational Woman in Literature Award. The objective of the awards is to recognize women who have motivated others in the industry to join their voice to the inspirational female empowerment choir and who inspire newcomers to consider starting their own journeys in literature, media or journalism."

Atlanta Business Chronicle - We attended the Chronicle's annual Business of Entertainment event at the Variety Playhouse this month. It's a great opportunity to hear from industry experts about the state of our film industry and do a bit of great networking. Oh, and did we mention that Melanie Levs is now Associate Editor?

Atlanta Journal-Constitution - We've added Lauren Williams as Hawks Beat Writer.

Decaturish broke a great story this month about Casper the dog who defended his flock of sheep from marauding coyotes. Casper killed eight of them, saving the sheep at the cost of some severe injuries. The story has been picked by many other media outlets, locally and nationally, including the AJC, WAGA, WXIA, Fox News, CBS News, the Guardian, the Washington Post and the NY Post.

HLN - Sad news this month as much of the crew at HLN was laid off. Details.

Locally Written - There's no lack of books for sale for family and friends this holiday season. I've got several on my desk, including "100 Things To Do In The North Georgia Mountains Before You Die" (Karon Warren), "Flipped" (Greg Bluestein), "The Three Death Sentences of Clarence Henderson" (Chris Joyner), and "A Road Running Southward" (Dan Chapman). Several of those were for sale at last week's Atlanta Press Club party at Manuel's Tavern, but I'm sure they're all available online or at local bookstore near you.

North Atlanta FitLife - We've added this publication to the database. They publish a magazine and blog and do community events. It's run by Tracie Morse.

Simply Buckhead - We mentioned last month that Karina Antenucci is stepping down for the editing during. I'm told that she'll continue to write for the magazine and that Giannina Smith Bedford has taken over the Managing Editor role.

WAGA - Congrats to Natalie McCann on the birthday of her daughter, Palmer. She's off on maternity leave and Brooke Zauner takes on her duties for the time being.

WSB TV - Matt Johnson is now the station's Gwinnett Bureau Chief, replacing the departed (to the FBI Atlanta office) Tony Thomas.

WXIA/11Alive - Reporter Kaitlyn Ross is now serving as a community board member for Star-C. It's a nonprofit that works in low income, high crime communities to create safe after school education opportunities for kids.
