Mitch's Media Musings - December 2019
Mitch's Media Musings
Nov. 16 - Dec. 15, 2019
General
We're feeling the loss this month of WSB Radio reporter Pete Combs. Combs died this month after a short battle with cancer. He was a great friend to so many, and loved by so many. We feel the pain of one taken far too soon. The family has requested that donations be made in Pete’s name to Lung Cancer Research Foundation at https://www.lungcancerresearchfoundation.org/.
Atlanta Business Chronicle
Dave Williams departs. He's setting up a Capitol News Bureau for the Georgia Press Association. I don't have a lot of details yet, but I expect he'll be up and running in January when the Legislative Session opens.
Amy Wenk will be departing the paper in December for a job with commercial real estate firm CBRE. Chris Fuhrmeister joins covering the restaurant and airport beats (credit to Talking Biz News for this item)
Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Morieka Johnson is now writing a pet column for the paper.
Shannon McCaffrey departs for a position with Emory University. She's the new Senior Director, Health Sciences Communications.
A few changes on the Commercial Real Estate and Development beat. Long-time writer Scott Trubey has joined the investigative unit and will continue to cover CRE and development stories. Trubey has been with the AJC since 2010, and worked before that at the Atlanta Business Chronicle, and the Augusta Chronicle. We learned as well that Andy Peters will join the paper in January, also writing on the CRE and development beat. Peters has spent the last eight years at American Banker and also worked at the Daily Report, the Macon Telegraph, Bloomberg News, the NY Times, and the Atlanta Business Chronicle. Scott says he and Andy will work together to cover the beat, but that he’ll be writing longer form stories, with Andy handling more of the daily coverage.
