Appen Media - At the IFPA Conference in Philadelphia, Appen brought home nine awards, including 2nd place for General Excellence (Northside Woman), 3rd Place for Black Box in Feature Writing, 1st Place for the Appen Podcast Network.

  • Newsman Jonathan Landrum, who's been covering entertainment news from the Atlanta bureau for many years, is moving to LA. He'll continue on that beat.

  • Dan Sewell is a former Atlanta-based AP writer, now working with AP out of Cincinnati. He pens this first-hand account of his coverage of the recent mass shooting there:

  • Alex Gaily joins the paper, covering restaurants and the airport. She's a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill for you Tarheels out there.

  • A tweak to reporter Amy Wenk’s duties as she adds coverage of the state’s booming entertainment industry to her portfolio. It appears she continues to cover hospitality and commercial real estate. Wenk has previously also been covering restaurants, but that piece now shifts to new reporter Alex Gailey.

  • Bill Husted - We were very sad to see news this month of the passing of former technology reporter Bill Husted. Bill was the paper's "TechnoBuddy" columnist for many years in the '90s.

  • Raisa Habersham is now the DeKalb Hyperlocal reporter.

  • Jill Vejnoska retires. She'll be going to graduate school in archival studies.

  • Erica Hernandez has left the paper for an associate mobile producer position at CNN.

Georgia Public Radio

  • Amy Kiley joins as Senior Producer for On Second Thought. She was previously with WABE.

  • Sophia Saliby joins as Producer for All Things Considered in the afternoons.

LaRaza adds 107.1 signal (thanks to the AJC's Rodney Ho for this item) - Tim Darnell departs 11Alive and returns to Patch.


  • Lori Geary joins the Georgia Gang. She was last with WSB TV.

  • Congrats to Alyse Eady on the first of her baby girl!


  • Natalie Rubino departs for Boston 25 News.

WSB Radio - The station won a Marconi Award for Major Market Radio Station of the Year.


  • Congrats to Christian Jennings on the birth of her baby girl!

  • Meteorologist Karen Minton has announced she'll be retiring in Feb. 2019 after 33 years with the station.

WVEE - Jean Ross was honored this month by the "Women's Empowerment Brunch."


  • Elwin Lopez joins as general assignment reporter.
