Yeah, I figured I'd forget to mention some folks when I mentioned some hardworking journalists last month! Honestly, I shudder to think what our communities would be like without all the hard-working journalists in Atlanta. A few more: Christian Boone, Alan Judd, Todd Cline. But you're (almost) all great, so there we go.

NATAS Gold & Silver Circle - The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Southeast Chapter (NATAS SE) honored it 2018 Gold & Silver Circle inductees this month. It's a society of honor that recognizes a career dedicated to the advancement of the television and digital media industry. Induction is a milestone reserved for professionals who have done more than witness change within an industry: They’ve led it.
This year’s class is composed of sixteen individuals from across the Southeast region.
The 2018 Silver Circle represents anchors, reporters, photographers, news directors and educators with twenty-five or more years of experience. Honorees include David Brooks (WXIA Atlanta), Glenn Burns (WSB Atlanta), John Cessarich (WYFF Greenville, SC), Dodie Cantrell-Bickley (University of Georgia), Ellen Crooke (TEGNA, Inc), Morse Diggs (WAGA Atlanta), Eddy Elguezabal (Univision Atlanta), Tracy Haynes (Savannah State University), Tony Light (WSB Atlanta), Teya Ryan (GPB Atlanta), Harry Samler (WGCL Atlanta), Russ Spencer (WAGA Atlanta), Tammy Watford (WLOS Asheville, SC).
For the first time, NATAS SE will induct a co-anchor team into the same class as we honor Bill Sharpe and Debi Chard (WCSC Charleston, SC).
Richard O’Dell of WLTX was inducted to the 2018 Gold Circle, a distinction reserved for those with fifty or more years of service to the industry.

Atlanta Loop - Derek Prall joins as editor and publisher. Prall continues as well as editor of American City & County magazine.

Ross Terrell moves to GPB from WABE
Elena Rivers joins as a producer on the "On Second Thought" show. She's a graduate of the University of Missouri and worked at KBIA public radio in Columbia, MO.
Marietta Daily Journal - The paper has moved to a new building on Waddell Street.
On Common Ground - The newspaper is switching to an online format.
(The) New York Times - Kevin Sack has been awarded a New America Emerson Fellowship to "support work on my book about the 200-year history of Emanuel AME Church in Charleston (site of the 2015 massacre of nine African-Americans by a young white supremacist). Along with a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the fellowship will make possible a book leave from the Times starting in January."

Jim Burress moves to the afternoons as local host and Senior Producer of the station's afternoon drive programming around "All Things Considered," from 4 - 6 p.m.

Condace Pressley has been promoted to Director of Community Affairs in Atlanta. She'll oversee community affairs over all of Cox Media Group's platforms, including the AJC, WSB TV and all four of their local radio stations. She takes over for the now-retired Jocelyn Dorsey. WXIA-TV/11Alive
Matt Pearl this month produced a special report on an innovative construction program here in Atlanta created by CEFGA, the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia. The CEFGA program trains unemployed Atlantans with no prior experience for entry-level construction jobs. Pearl's show is called "In Construction." Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/ya3es7fu.

Elwyn Lopez joins as multimedia journalist. She joins from CNN where she covered international and domestic news. She graduated from the Meek School of Journalism at the University of Mississippi. Lopez is the co-president for the Atlanta chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalist and speaks English, Spanish, French and Portuguese.
Atlanta Tech Edge ended this month. A very disappointing fate for the only television show in town focused on technology. The show was out of the sales department, not news, which made it dependent on advertising and sponsorships. Perhaps it's not too late to save it. If your company would like to secure a prime sponsorship slot, give them a call.
