It seems it’s Awards Season in journalism circles!

We’ve got a long list of awards which we’ve either summarized, listed or linked to, depending on length of course. I’m not even going to try to highlight anyone here. I’ll just get myself in trouble or leave someone out.

Suffice it to say, there’s been all kinds of great journalism committed in Atlanta the past year. Take a moment to scroll through it all.

Small Biz: Diana Harbour founded The Red Dress Boutique and has seen revenue grow by nearly 300 percent from 2012-2013, grossing $7.1 million dollars from just $63,000 in 2010. Ninety-three percent of the growth is attributed to the online boutique that sells nationwide. Based in Athens, Diana uses innovative social media and marketing techniques to drive her business.
Hurricane Season: Susannah Kinsey is with Sterling Risk Management and with I the start of Hurricane Season June 1, she’s available to talk about you must prepare your property: with planning, upgrades and proper insurance.
Data Breaches – David Barton, UHY Advisors. Barton is an expert on data breaches and how companies can protect themselves from hacking, phishing, state-sponsored data attacks, etc.
Food: Joey Ward is the chef at Gunshow. Ward has found a lot of inspiration in the chefs he admires, particularly his grandfather, who was a cook in the United States Navy and acted as a father figure for him. He says cooking is a form of art and that you must strive to appeal to all of the senses simultaneously, and if possible, evoke emotion.
More Food: Kamal Grant is the founder and creative director of Sublime Doughnuts. Grant’s love for baking started at a very young age when he realized that sweets make people happy and he wanted to do things to make people happy. When an executive from Dunkin Donuts visited Grant’s high school food service class and discussed his trips to the doughnut research and development lab to taste the experimental treats it sounded pretty sweet.

WIGO Radio wins a Stellar Award for Station of the Year. The station is a gospel format.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution - Maureen Downey wins national award for opinion writing from the Education Writers Association.

Associated Press - Congrats to former AP Atlanta newsperson Errin Haines Whack! The Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists has named her its print journalist of the year. The award is given for work considered extraordinary in depth, scope or significance to African-Americans or other black people of African descent. Atlanta Journal-Constitution • Aaron Gold Sheinin departs the paper for a job as senior news editor at WebMD (in Atlanta). • Reporter Ellen Eldridge participated this month in the "Thread at Yale Program," a gathering of journalists and storytellers. They gather and learn from mentors in the field. • Congrats to reporter Scott Trubey, who won the Bronze for Best Tweet Collection at the National Association of Real Estate Editors convention this month.

Best Self Atlanta - The magazine has nominations open for its "Courage Award," celebrating inspiration transformations. Link: http://www.trainwithpayne.com/courage-award/.

Cobb Business Journal • Photojournalist Jennifer Carter has her photographs on display at the new Northside Hospital Cherokee in a collection titled, “Cherokee, A Place I Love.” Located throughout the facility, the photos were commissioned to reflect the favorite Cherokee places of many Northside employees. Jennifer’s work has also appeared in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Cobb Life, Cherokee Life, Taste & Travel Magazine and The Oklahoman. More at www.jenwanders.com. • CBJ and Cobb Life Director Mark Wallace Maguire has been awarded a 2017 first place Green Eyeshade award for Humorous Commentary from the Society for Professional Journalists. This award marks Maguire’s fifth Green Eyeshade Award he has received since 2011, including two other First Place awards

Wanderlust Atlanta - We came across this blog this month. Check it out! Looks like he covers retail, restaurants, food, tourism, theater. He's been writing for several years, so this isn't a new blog, but I wanted to take the opportunity to highlight it.

WSB Radio • If you've been looking for Scott Slade's Sunday morning show recently, I'm told that the show is not being produced right now. In its place is a new show hosted by Monica Matthews. WXIA/11Alive • Tracy Humphrey is leaving the station. She'll be teaching at her daughter's school. • Cara Kneer is the new host of Atlanta Tech Edge.

WYAY / 106.7 • Cheryl White and Jackie Howard are no longer with the station. Jackie says she's joined Nancy Grace's broadcast team as a producer for her podcast "Crime Stories with Nancy Grace."
